We offer a post of Translator / Interpreter. Under this post, the recruited person will be attributed functions depending on the needs of the Delegation. Upon recruitment, the successful candidate will occupy a specific job function as Translator / Interpreter – this job function may be changed in accordance with the needs of the Delegation. He/she will work as the main interpreter (Arabic/English) for the EU Delegation’s meetings with Libyan interlocutors (political, military, economic, NGOs, etc.) in Tunis, and should be able to perform both simultaneous and consecutive interpretation; he/she will also be tasked with translating documents (Notes verbales, letters, press releases, videos, etc.) and may be requested to carry out other tasks (protocol and administration, support in organising meetings or social events, etc.) to support the work of the Political, Press and Information section under the supervision of the relevant head of section. The selected candidate may be requested to carry out short missions in Libya together with EU Delegation staff.



The EU delegation’s size is +/- 25 people (gender balanced team). The place of employment is Tunis. The post is within Group 1 and the starting basic monthly salary is 4 599.000 TND, for a total of 40 hours per week.

The initial contract will have the duration of one year, renewable.

Selection Criteria

Minimum Requirements:

Medically fit to perform the required duties;
Enjoys civil rights and permit for employment under local law;
Perfect knowledge of English and Arabic (written and spoken);
University degree;
Excellent oral and written presentation skills; Good IT skills required;
At least 1 year working experience relevant to the job.
Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, national counterparts; donor agencies, other stakeholders and ability to adapt well in a multi-cultural environment;
Personal initiative and ability to focus on priorities and meet deadlines;
A high degree of integrity and the ability to deal with confidential information is required.


The following will be considered an asset:

Diploma in Interpretation or Translation Studies;
Experience in an International Organisation or Diplomatic Mission;
Knowledge of French is an advantage.
